Contrary to popular belief, I don’t have any problems with any pop star. They are just trying to make a buck in an ever changing and increasingly more difficult to break music industry. That’s fine. (I hate their fans, but that’s a different matter).

But two things they constantly do annoy me to death. I hate when they try to pretend they are sincere. Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, One Direction, they are all just products forced into the consumer market. A line in the commercial for Katy Perry’s new movie always jumps out at me: “I promised to never change to fit in.” That’s exactly what she did. That’s exactly what they all do. They are examples of amazing marketing and A&R development. Nothing wrong with that, music is, after all, a product. But acting like you are truly an artistic specialist when you just regurgitate what your label feeds you is false advertising. I think this “sincere” act is probably forced on them by marketing.

This is what I hate more than anything: when they pretend what they do is work. I was watching a Bieber special on E! and he said: “its nice after a day of hard work blah blah blah.” His hard day of work involved being on a talk show and singing one song to 10,000 fans outside of a window. That’s not work. That’s a dream come true. You don’t understand how many people would kill to live your life just for one day. Performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world would be considered a luxury for most people, not a hard day of work. Don’t act like its tough on you.
